Abstract: | The order Diptera is the dominant insect group in the Cenozoic amber fossil record. High species richness and relative abundance of Diptera insects is frequent in Oligocene-Miocene amber from Dominican Republic. In this paper, two Diptera genus are cited for the first time in the Dominican Republic amber: Orfelia (Keroplatidae) and Scatopse (Scatopsidae). The family Keroplatidae is abundant in the Tertiary amber sites, however, Scatopsidae specimens are uncommon in the fossil record. The Cenozoic fossil record of the Scatopsidae examples is practically limited to the Mexican and Baltic amber. Also, the amber pieces have been tested to confirm its authenticity. |
