Abstract: | A new species of fungus gnats (Mycetophilidae), Paradoxa paradoxa sp. n., is described from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is the second species of its genus beside Paradoxa fusca Marshall extant in New Zealand. Among southern hemisphere Mycetophilidae, Paradoxa is a further example of Gondwanan origin and the first one demonstrating direct affinities between the faunas of South Africa and New Zealand. |
