Forums:
Now we have two solutions: SCIAROIDEA_L through McGill and forums on FGO
SCIAROIDEA_L:
advantages:
simple and straightforward
disadvantages:
sustainability
need to be advertise to catch audience
additional registration is needed to search/post through web interface
FGO forums:
advantages:
integrated into site
messages could be organised by categories/threads
secure messages through organic groups
disadvantages:
somewhat complicated administration
Am I missing something?

RE: Forum/mailing list seem to be working
In Sciaroidea_l Messages are archived by thread (based on subject line) as well. I don't think that advertising should be a problem assuming we list it prominently as a resource on FGO (maybe mentioned somehow when someone signs up on FGO or on a resources page.). Also not sure what you mean by sustainability as a disadvantage. The listserv can remain in existence for as long as there is a McGill University.
I think the simple and straightforward nature of Sciaroidea_l is a selling point as this will draw people in. And it can easily be used in concert with FGO. I am on a number of other listservs that have an associated blog with forums. Subjects are often first addressed on the listserv and then once it has developed or gotten specific interested parties are encouraged to contribute to move discussion to a blog forum. I assume we could do the same thing with Sciaroidea_l and FGO.
Thoughts?

Forum topic content type does
Forum topic content type does not include attachment field. I do not know yet if it is possible to include or not.
I am trying to include an image enabling rich-text (http://sciaroidea.info/sites/sciaroidea.infosciaroidea.info/files/u9/thu...)
If this does not work shall try to change tomorrow. Does listserv and Joomla support attachments?
