Abstract:

Within the framework of investigations into the diversity and niche
preferences of alpine and subalpine Diptera and into floral ecology,
faunistic surveys were carried out in the Hohe Tauern National Park
in Austria. Collections were made discontinuously between 1989 and
1999, with yellow-tray traps, sweep nets, and individual captures.
Material from 4 nematocerous and 15 brachycerous families has been
evaluated, and the results are presented here in an annotated faunal
list. This list contains 286 species belonging to the following families:
Acroceridae (1 species), Anthomyiidae (9), Calliphoridae (3), Chloropidae
(11), Diadocidiidae (1), Dolichopodidae (13), Empididae (17), Hybotidae
(25), Keroplatidae (2), Muscidae (18), Mycetophilidae (12), Rhagionidae
(2), Rhinophoridae (2), Sarcophagidae (12), Scathophagidae (3), Sciaridae
(63), Sepsidae (1), Syrphidae (57), Tachinidae (33). 27 species are
new records for the Austrian fauna. Moreover, this work contributes
to the knowledge of the dipterous fauna of the federal provinces
of Carinthia and Salzburg. Flower visiting and hilltopping species
are annotated. In addition, two black fungus gnats are described
as new to science (Bradysia latipennis Menzel spec. nov. and Cratyna
phili Menzel spec. nov.).
