Welcome to Mycetophylo forum

Forums:

Dear all,

As agreed in Potsdam I created a forum for MycetoPhylo project. It should serve as a main communication tool. This message is to test how it and to explain how to use it. Please answer the message so I would know that everything is properly setup and your email is up to date.

You should receive the message as a regular email. To post another message it simply in the thread simply answer the message. Please also delete cited text, otherwise posts tend to become unbearably long. Alternatively you can go to Forums -> MycetoPhylo -> Welcome to MycetoPhylo and add new comment.

To start a new topic go to Content (top of page) -> add Forum topic. Type a title and select MycetoPhylo in the second field (Forums). Obviously, you have to be logged in. If you wish the topic to be private for our group select MycetoPhulo in the field Group Audience.

Please let me know if you have any troubles

Cheers,

Vlad

22.08.2014. Addition. Another way to start a new topic is to send a message to mycetophylo@sciaroidea.info. Type a topic name in the Subject field. It will be automatically sent to everybody in the group and saved in the forum as a separate topic

Dear Vlad,

Many thanks for providing the discussion forum. We are now ready to go into practical issues. As agreed in our Potsdam meeting, first would be taxon sampling.

I send attached an .xls file with the list of genera of Mycetophilidae of the world. This is basically Bechev's paper with some updates on the list of genera and a complete update on the number of the species of the Neotropical region based on Sarah & Amorim in press. Sorry if things were left out and for the outdated number of species of each genus for the different regions. Some clarifications:

* This is no underlying proposal of a classification of subfamilies/tribes or of valid genera/subgenera. Maybe a consensus general classification of the family can come out when we have a phylogeny, with no paraphyletic taxa. But so far this is just a way of gathering the information.
* There is not a complete list of junior synonyms of genera. This will demand some examination of how close the type-species of the synonymized genera are.
* A f inal check is necessary on the list of genera/subgenera itself.
* If anyone has the info and patience , it would be interesting to have updated number of species from the various regions.
* There are 147 genera listed (some of them known to be junior subjective synonyms), of which four genera are further subdivided into 18 subgenera.
* This number suggests that a proper taxonomic sampling in the family for the study will reach, with the proper sampling of potentially paraphyletic genera, of 180-200 species.

An operational issue now is not to work on parallel copies of the file. I am sure the use of the platform of Sciaroidea.net will be key in this sense! Probably Vlad is going to give us instructions on how to avoid parallel work.

When we have the complete list of genera/subgenera ready, we will be able to move ahead into the choice of species of the genera of the family for the different individual paper on comparative morphology of the body parts progress.
Have fun! Very best regards to all,

Dalton

I put it in the Google Spreadsheet, and created a folder on Google Drive so
we can share and edit documents together easily. You should get separate
notifications.
