Apyrtula Edwards, 1940

Type species: Platyura spatulata by MO. Evenhuis, 2006: "Edwards (1940) gave characters to validate the name Apyrtula as a subgenus of Platyura, described one species, Platyura spatulata, in that subgenus, and designated Platyura abbrevinervis Edwards as the type species (anticipating his publication [Edwards, 1941b)], both manuscripts having been written at the same time but published in different journals). Unfortunately, Edwards did not give characters to validate the name abbrevinervis in the 1940 paper, so that name cannot be used as the type species. Thus, the only name that can be used as the type species is Platyura spatulata by mono- typy. With the validation of the genus-group name in the 1940 paper and the type fixation of Platyura spatulata by monotypy in that work, the description of and type designation for Apyrtula in the 1941 paper is thus superfluous."
